Hiring Procedures

BRSU is committed to having transparent hiring procedures so that only the best candidates are chosen for employment.

  • All vacant positions will be advertised be each district on www.schoolspring.com and posted internally by BRSU.
  • All applicants will be required to complete an appropriate employment application. See the employment applications below.
  • Candidates will be screened and selected for interviewing based on their application materials. Applicants for teaching positions will be required to sign the Applicant's Acknowledgment, Waiver and Release before being interviewed (see below).
  • Principals/Directors will perform a comprehensive reference and background check on selected candidates after interviewing them.
  • Before orally offering a position to a teacher candidate, the Principal/Director will consult with the Superintendent to verify salary. When making an oral offer of employment, the offer will include the exact salary figure or rate of pay and will be contingent upon the board voting to hire the candidate and upon successful completion of the Vermont criminal background check process.
  • After the candidate has accepted an offer employment, application materials will be forwarded to the BRSU office along with a hiring recommendation. BRSU will prepare the hiring materials for board action.
  • In the case where it is necessary to start a candidate before a board's next meeting, the Superintendent may authorize the candidate to begin work prior to the board taking action on the hire
  • After the board hires a candidate, BRSU will send out the hire letter. Principals/Directors will be CCed on the hire letter. Principals/Directors will send out orientation information specific to the school. Employees will complete W-4s and I-9s, criminal background check forms at the school.
